A lot of poppies

We found this poppy field near the city of Gazalkent, Uzbekistan. Poppies fade very quickly, but we still managed to photograph them.

For details (in Russian), see here.

The other thing scarlet poppies connote to me is Remembrance Day in Britain, Canada, and Australia (and to a lesser extent Memorial Day, observed in late May, here in the U.S.; November 11 is devoted to honoring living veterans.) What connotations do they have out your way?
