New England Asters
The New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae) is one of the latest-blooming native wildflowers where I live, peaking well after the summer flowers are spent.

Another name for it is Michaelmas Daisy, which makes sense as they bloom around that holiday.

They're an important fall food source for seed-eating birds as well as pollinators.

I look forward to seeing them bloom every year. Purple may not be a traditional fall color, but it is one to me!
