Bonneville Dam

After returning to the 84/30 we ended up at the Bonneville Dam in search of a bathroom! It was a good stop though as the view (and sound) of the dam was impressive.

The river leading from the Bonneville Dam.

Near the dam was a fish ladder, and you could go see underwater to watch fish migrating. At the time we were there no fish were using it but it was a neat idea.

Some views of the area around the Bonneville Dam and museum.

Also, there were so many beautiful flowers in bloom we came across in different places. There were many large bushes of these azaleas near the museum and along the road.

How interesting! I've never seen a dam (or fish ladder) in person.

I'm always grateful when these kinds of places are built with the fish ladder; there are some dams that give no thought to it at all, and the damage it's done to some species is just terrible.

Utrecht in the Netherlands has made similar accommodations for spring migrations of fish through their canal system: https://common-nature.dreamwidth.org/281642.html

And, all things considered, a wise place to put a public restroom.

Wow, that looks pretty impressive! The sound of water like that, at that pressure can be very intense! I've been to damns before, too. One here in Ohio - a few hours away from where I live - I just can't remember the name of it.

Oh that's lovely, thank you! I've bookmarked the site, too. Awhile to wait, but should be interesting!

I first thought the first photos depicted lots of small ice floes :-) Looks like a fabulous place to take a bathroom break.

There can be quite a bit of interesting history and work behind them!
