Flowers and Fledglings

From a recent trip, flowers and a very persistent bird.



While we were in DC waiting for a trolley pickup at the Lincoln Memorial, we were watching some grackles and strongly suspected we were seeing a juvenile hounding their parent for food. It was loud and screaming continuously. We once had a fledgling robin that turned up on our balcony where its parents had a new nest, engaging in quite similar behavior. This one was aggressive against the adult, pecking at it, but the larger bird ignored it and didn't attack back.

Given the tourist trash left around it had options, and it seemed the adult was leading the fledge towards trash picking and doing the rounds. But boy, it didn't like it!

Oh, the flowers are gorgeous! And young birds always make me laugh. They are like demanding children. "MOM! GIMME FOOD NOW!"
