Attingham

An elm skeleton in the landscape:

That's the Wrekin in the distant Summer haze:

And wood dapple in the park grounds:

A stand of native foxgloves:

This gate and fence caught my attention:

A waterway runs through the grounds:

Kine!

More kine. These are the wonderfully old fashioned English dairy shorthorn which you rarely see these days:

The guy in the middle there is a rather splendid  Herefordshire bull. They kept still for us as they were enjoying the shade under a stand of trees:

Another nice stand of trees, this time with no kine:

Another elm skeleton:

The dead tree reminded me of this Surrey landmark:

No idea if it's still there.

Possibly a foolish question, but how can you tell that the tree was an elm?

Also, 'kine' is a great word!

Such sculptural looking trees. And glad the cows were happy for some rest in the shade -- that fence looked kind of skimpy!

Aha! Well that's probably just as well for both the cows and passerby.

Dead elms make me feel so sad! The last few elms in my little town all died a couple of years ago :-/

Wonderful photos! Everything's looking so lush and green and summery. What a lovely profusion of foxgloves! And such a handsome, placid bull!
