More kine. These are the wonderfully old fashioned English dairy shorthorn which you rarely see these days:



The guy in the middle there is a rather splendid  Herefordshire bull. They kept still for us as they were enjoying the shade under a stand of trees:

An oak in that case.

The loss of all the elms in the UK broke my heart.

Possibly a foolish question, but how can you tell that the tree was an elm?

Also, 'kine' is a great word!

Shape as much as anything and also being solitary.

My grandmother came from the northeast of England and I inherited the usage from her.

Such sculptural looking trees. And glad the cows were happy for some rest in the shade -- that fence looked kind of skimpy!

It was, what it was also an electric fence! Even the big bull seemed pretty placid though- too hot to be too lively! :o)

Dead elms make me feel so sad! The last few elms in my little town all died a couple of years ago :-/

Wonderful photos! Everything's looking so lush and green and summery. What a lovely profusion of foxgloves! And such a handsome, placid bull!

The loss of elms broke my heart in my undergrad days.

Foxgloves follow on from the bluebells and the next up will be rosebay willowherb.

I think that big guy was feeling too hot to do the big butch bull act! :o)
