Redwing with ivy berries
The reward for going on a long walk on this icy morning was a close encounter with a flock of redwings feasting on ivy in the hedgerows.

Wow! Absolutely fantastic photos! I've never seen redwings before. They're really pretty. Here we only seem to have blackbirds and fieldfares.

Thank you! I never see them at the feeders or in the garden, except in the hedge. They definitely favour hawthorn or ivy berries over anything else.

These are gorgeous!! I'm not familiar with the bird, but the speckled belly is super cute.
The first photo is my favorite, and I really like the blurred leaves in the foreground. Artsy.

Thank you! The first photo is cropped to highlight the beakful of berry while the others are straight off of camera. 🙂

Thank you! I was very surprised at how close they were. Normally they're off as soon as they notice you noticing them.

Agreed! The lingering frost on the berries enhanced them in the photo, too.
