Community Profile

This is a place for people who still find wonder and joy and mystery in all the little things that are happening in the everyday world around us, unsupervised and too often unnoticed by human beings.

We welcome questions, pictures, photographs, stories, links, quotations, poems, articles, rants, reviews, anecdotes, announcements, and anything else, as long as they are about the bits of wilderness that live among us -- the world of our big backyard, whether that yard is a million-acre ranch, the grass of suburbia, dandelions and plantains growing through the cracks in the concrete, an entire ocean, the two square feet of sky visible through your window, or even just the mold growing on the three-week-old take-out food in the back of the fridge.

Your friendly local maintainers are melannen and elke_tanzer. Feel free to write your own intro post -- but use that post to introduce your backyard or your garden, too. And tell us where on Earth you live, so we can all see how big our common nature really is.

A few community guidelines:

1.) We're not going to be strict about this, but if a post would take a lot of bandwidth, or take over somebody's Circle page formatting, use a cut.
* If your post contains material which should be viewed with discretion, you must use Dreamwidth's features to label it as such.
* If you are posting something very long or image-intensive, use a cut. (Be courteous to those reading their DW Circle on small screens or via slow internet connections...)
* If you are posting something mature, explicit, potentially-disturbing or potentially-triggering, especially if it is image(s), use a cut. (Be courteous to those reading their DW Circle at work, or who want share nature with young children...)
* If you are embedding video-with-audio or audio, or are linking to audio or video content, please note in your post that viewers' computers are about to make noise when they view that content; when you can, set it not to play automatically.
* Keep accessiblity in mind for people who might have trouble accessing visual, audio, or high-bandwidth content; when possible, include alt tags, transcripts, or text descriptions or summaries.

2.) Be considerate, thoughtful, and polite. This includes making a good-faith attempt to use decipherable spelling and grammar and stay on topic, of course.

3.) Feel free to jump in any time, especially if the community's quiet. If you have any complaints or suggestions, e-mail the community maintainers.

4.) The default suggestion is "Quit whining and go play outside!"
