A walk in the Raby Estate

The Raby Estate is a stretch of local managed woodland.

A view across the fields from Ercall Woods showing that Autumn really is on the way:

The last of the rosebay willowherb- most of it is now seeding:

With the dry weather and local farmers needing to water, Ercall Pool is a long way down:

More signs of Autumn:

And more still:

That old shed lost in the woods has become even more ramshackle since we last passed this way!

The Raby Estate is part  coniferous woodland:

And part deciduous:

The fern is beginning to turn:

Over towards the long Mynd and the Caradocs from Spout Lane:

An old locally made drinking trough being used for flowers:

Wenlock Edge from Spout Lane:

A large and rather splendid rowan:

The Ercall from Wrekin Farm lane:

A death cap fungus:

More Autumn colours:

And the path home:

I have to admit that I'm very much enjoying my new camera. I eventually went for another Sony, the A6000 mirrorless with a rather sweet little Zeiss zoom lens.

Thank you for this lovely treat! That's a great rowan, and the death's-cap mushroom is quite alarming as well as beautiful.

Confused me for a moment as that's not the Raby Estate I was expecting ;)

(Raby Castle is in Durham, near Staindrop and I usually drive past it a few times a year when visiting the family. In fact we used to get our Christmas trees from there when we were kids).

It's certainly taking some very nice photos! When I bought a new camera two years ago I debated over all sorts of models and ended up with a newer version of my same kind of camera. Not sorry about it either.

Rosebay willowherb! Here in Alaska we call that fireweed (because it fills in first after a wildfire). Our fireweed is at about that same stage as yours. I was out picking wild blueberrries last week and had to climb a bank covered with it and ended up simply coated with the white seed fluff till I looked like some sort of especially disgraceful cat.

I am stuck at home in quarantine, so extra happy to see these beautiful pictures.
