various animal/bird things
Sep. 24th, 2020 08:53 pmHi! Have a few million animal/bird pictures, as opposed to colorful leafy things, which I may also do a post of later.
Equinox morning, I was driving home after doing an errand, and saw a hawk fly up to a telephone pole, near our water treatment plant.
I started taking pictures of him, and he immediately moved to another pole. As it turned out, this is because he felt harassed by me. At first, I figured he just wanted a comfier pole. But in retrospect, he certainly does not seem pleased with me here.

Of course, he might not be comfy in part because he's molting all over the place.

Anyway, I took some more pictures, and eventually had to book it due to being late. He seemed relieved.

So then, next day I met a Kingfisher! This was exciting, as I never have before. The guys are brighter and more Obvious, but the females still make godawful noises.

I also went back to Sachuest, after doing some homework, and stopped at Norman Bird Sanctuary, the parking lot for which had always been closed before because I keep getting there late. I was picturing a wee little place, but this thing is muckin' huge, and has 50 zillion habitats.
I met a whole bunch of frogs. Here's one.

Also, as one might expect, a heron. Peeeeeeeeering. (This did not result in a strike.)

S/he was, as is the nature of things just now, also shaggy as hell. Shagginess demonstrated as s/he sashays away. Molt, molt, molt some more.

Then, after clambering around on some cliffs at Norman, I went back down to Sachuest for sunset, and met a contemplative seagull.

Then today, everyone was sleepy. Post-equinoctal naps, I guess. Sleepy swan, here.

Then, sleepy goose.

The goose is corral-mates with the donkey/burro I met awhile back. The flock of geese/ducks were all hungry, as were the equines. The donkey, a cat in equine form, really expected me to feed him. He took scritching, as was his due, but then he went off to roll around on the ground. (For awhile he was doing this with his ears still laid back, to tell me what a Bad Person I was, but he couldn't keep it up forever.)

He came back to get more scritches and tell me I was objectionable for not doing what he wanted, but eventually got forced out by the horses, who also wanted food but would put up with scritches. So the burro/donkey went over to the cord by the fence and Very Obviously started gnawing on it. That'll tell me!

(I like him.)
Also, later on, a female goldfinch munching seeds, plus a blue jay telling the universe to shut up, he's here! (I still need an actual good blue jay picture, but this will do for now.)
