A woodland walk
Feb. 27th, 2022 10:16 amWe took a walk in the Ercall Forest a few days back before all the storms and floods hit us.
There was fungus of course!

And pools.Everything from a puddle to a lake is a 'pool' hereabouts!

I loved the form of this cut trunk:

Lichens love the Winter damp:

Another fungus:

And a Tolkienesque corner of Mirkwood:

For those of you who know your A E Housman and Ralph Vaughan Williams, that's Wenlock Edge which stands above the small, wonderfully named town of Much Wenlock:

'The road through the woods':

Another pool. There were deer down to drink but they spooked before I could snap:

Winter light:

The local rock is sandstone:

A former 19th century sandstone quarry:

The Wrekin in Winter colours:

Another pool:

And more rocks:

A brook runs through this stretch of woodland:

Still lots of Winter leaves on the ground heading for mulchhood:

And some views from the woodland across to the Weald Moors and the Shropshire Plain:

But I would still love a few acres to have 2 alpacas, then work more with fibers. Life is full of trade offs!
