A woodland walk

We took a walk in the Ercall Forest a few days back before all the storms and floods hit us.

There was fungus of course!



And pools.Everything from a puddle to a lake is a 'pool' hereabouts!







I loved the form of this cut trunk:



Lichens love the Winter damp:

For those of you who know your A E Housman and Ralph Vaughan Williams, that's Wenlock Edge which stands above the small, wonderfully named town of Much Wenlock:

It'll be a while before we can get up into the forest again as the paths are now a quagmire after all the recent rain!

During all the problems of the last two years we've realised how lucky we are to be here.

Silence, tranquility, greenery... Nothing yet portends hurricane winds and fallen trees.

Right. The trails get like that here, so muddy they will get ruined if people walk on them.

Sadly, there are idiot off road cyclists who just continue through the Winter and they have destroyed some of the trails.

Although we now have quite a lot of downed trees and damaged banks.

They have kept us sane through all of this!

Right! Similar stuff happens here. They announce the trails are closed but people still mess them up with their bikes, sigh.

I think covid made a lot of people get on bikes that hadn't before.

'Real' cyclists know you don't use the trails in Winter and you keep OFF the ones marked with 'footpath' symbols. They also make if difficult for horse riders.

That is probably a big part of it, post Covid. And for us, massive amounts of people are moving here, sigh.

Thankfully, people still haven't yet discovered that Shropshire is a wonderful place to live, but I fear it is only a matter of time........

Yes, it very well might be just a bit of time and they will start showing up!

Townies who'll then complain that cocks crow and pigs smell and that the bellringers ring the church bells on Sunday morning..........

Oh right. Not realizing the reality of the area. Silly people.

You hear so much of people from the cities moving to rural areas without a clue what it's actually like! We knew what we were coming to as we'd visited here so often over the years.

Yes. A move from the city to the country takes some research. And as we get a bit older, G. and I always think, and how long would it take to get the doctor, or a hospital if needed.

We are so spoiled here in the city, being very close to things. It is a real trade off.

But I would still love a few acres to have 2 alpacas, then work more with fibers. Life is full of trade offs!
