Monarchs would always be a seasonal marker of late summer through early autumn in Ohio; they particularly love the garden sedums blossoming then, as do flies, honeybees, bumblebees, and other butterfly species, including blues, coppers, painted ladies, and cabbage and sulphur butterflies.
(PSA, southwestern Ohio being my area of experience: if you want to set out a multi-pollinator nectar buffet—as well as an easy platform for insect photo-ops—sedum is one of the best non-native things you can plant.
And now I’m wondering if anyone’s ever cultivated sedum honey.)
