turlough: tiny black & white bird among flowering apple blossoms, Pied Flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) ((other) bird watcher)

Until just a couple of years ago I wasn't aware we even had Collared Doves (Streptopelia decaocto) in Sweden but since then I've learned they started to appear here in the late 40s and can now be found in many cities and towns in the southern half of the country. Apparently also in my little town and on my walk earlier today I managed to get this really nice photo of one of them:

We see them daily around the feeder in the garden. (Denmark) There are usually two and we have noticed that if a third shows up, the others will chase it away, so we strongly suspect that it's the same two individuals we see.

They are common in our corner of the UK (Shropshire) and I always get mighty amused by how this bird will chase wood pigeons off and they are twice their size!

Lovely pic.

The showed up where I live about twenty years ago, which is when I learned that they've been slowly making their way northwest for a while now. They're so pretty, and they usually hang out in pairs.

I honestly never knew there were so many varieties of doves until recently. This one looks lovely, a perfect shot between leaves and branches.

Oh, that's great, just a slight suggestion of the clerical. We get mourning doves, but (fortunately) the more people who let their cats outside, the more likely the doves are to decamp very quickly. I can still hear them calling in the evening.

What a lovely dove. :D

We have mourning doves where I live, and at my parents house there's a nest above the front door with a couple and their babies. So far they have been doing well.

Nice shot! These have been introduced to much of the US (where we call them Eurasian Collared Doves) but often go unnoticed because they look similar to our native Mourning Doves. I've seen and heard them in California but I don't think they've made it to New England.
