Spring at Last

The weather has clearly turned when we have to turn on the AC to sleep at night, but finally seeing most of the trees in bloom was also high on the list.


Also a sign is bees going about their business. It was clearly noon when this photo was taken. Bumblebee going about with its shadow following.



The cloud cover made a nice sunset contrast.

I'm deep into spring planting here.

Both honeybees and native bees are busy, now that there are more flowers.

Have I mentioned how much I miss temperate flowering spring trees?

(Do we have crabapples or redbuds to thank for that luxurious fuschia? I can’t tell which at a distance.)

A good question, I'm not sure what kind of tree they are, but they're not young. They've been there for some time so apparently that is their average size.

To maximize butterfly traffic, supply larval host plants in addition to nectar plants for adults.

A puddling spot is also helpful in attracting males of some species. Some butterflies of both sexes also love overripe fruit.

These are sweet pics, and the trees and grass are such soft, lovely colors. I'm surprised at how many bumblebees I'm seeing around my backyard this year.

I was glad to see the flowering trees come back, we've lost so many to early frosts.

They're a sharp pop alright! But it doesn't last long. The leaves are a brownish shade once they come in.

Oh lovely, thank you :-) Our spring bloom peaked a while back, but the catoneaster still has masses of white flowers.

I see I missed the start of 3 Weeks for Dreamwidth. Wonder if I can muster up 3 bloggy entries as I did a few years ago.

Ah, I do so love a bumblebee. Your pic is very cute! We have a bunch of bumblebees around here, and some carpenter bees which look just like bumblebees except ours are all black (and very noisy!). They're all over our lavender, and my kale which unfortunately went straight to seed first thing this spring.
