I've been told there's at least one coyote in our neighborhood; it made me nervous to go outside at night for a while.

They're everywhere. I'm told there's probably 2000 in the city of Chicago. I'm not too worried about myself, but I have a couple of 20pd Bichon frises that go out at night.

Unless you're a small child, chances are a coyote would run away if you yelled at it. They are not that big and attacks are pretty rare! Many more people are attacked by pet dogs every year.

A woman was either killed or badly injured by coyotes in the next town over, but there were three of them at the time. I guess the problem is worse there.
