Heron

I took my camera on the daily walk with the baby today in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the heron that's been frequenting our strip of the canal recently. Not only was it around, it was on our lock! It stood for a good long while staring back at us before it flew off, so I got to take some nice shots. All can be clicked to embiggen.

Thank you! I feel pretty lucky to have happened upon it when it was so close, and to be in possession of the kit to take the photos!

I always think they look like they're bending in far too many places (wings and neck) to be properly aerodynamic! :P

I got a few shots of it sitting in a field earlier. It looked a lot fluffier because it was hunkered down having a rest. Digesting a meal, perhaps?

My partner saw two herons fighting while he was out for a run last week. I dashed out with my camera after he came back and told me, but they'd gone.
