The oregano is in bloom again, and the bees and the butterflies are all over it! Today we spotted two small tortoiseshells and a comma feasting on it. Managed to get a good capture of the comma.
Lovely! Especially given the tendencies of commas to either flutter their wings continually or perch with them closed. Capping both sides of the wing pattern in one image is an achievement too. I also like the oregano flowers. The little Lamiaceae herbs are so delicate and pretty.
There must've been some really tasty nectar in the blossoms this year because that comma was being pretty leisurely about its feed and its fluttering! I probably could've gotten this shot without shooting in continuous mode, although I'm sure it helped.
Thank you! Having good equipment definitely helps. My insect shots are mostly taken with a 100 mm macro lens, and the bird shots with a 70-200 mm telephoto at the upper end of the range.
