We recently had a visit from a heron. It was strolling around our end of the lake.

Apparently it made the ducks nervous, who took to the water.

It was mostly facing away but we did get one side view.

What a handsome (but naughty) boy.

If I was a mallard and I saw a great blue heron coming I would probably run away too. It could eat me if it felt like it. ;)

I didn't see it myself but other people at the nature reserve where I volunteer told me they saw a grey heron (big, but smaller than the great blue) eat a teal, a duck considerably smaller than a mallard, true, but even so you don't mess with a heron. ;)

I'm fascinated by the splashing shot of the duck.
