Fieldfares
Mar. 19th, 2018 10:22 amThe Shaggy Ponies in the field over the canal from my house share their grazing land with a lot of bird life. The most common year-round visitors are the wagtails, but in the winter, they also share with the fieldfares.
They're difficult to photograph against a grassy green background, as their subtle colouration renders them effectively a Small Brown Bird unless you're quite close to them. In the snow, however, they're a little easier to capture. I happened to look out the window when our most recent (and hopefully last) snowstorm hit this weekend and saw them near the house.

Four fieldfares in the snow, three on the ground and one in the air.

Five fieldfares in the snow, four on the ground and one just coming in for a landing.
