Your photos reminded me of something I saw a few weeks ago. While on a walk around our lake a female mallard and three drakes suddenly splashed down near where I was. Two of the males were fighting one another viciously. The female took off and both of them followed, leaving the third behind. Although I didn't see it, I suddenly heard a "clang." Turns out the female had been flying so low that she flew into the chain link fence at the back of the complex. I could sort of see her and the two males standing around before she took off again.
The two males were fighting and swooping around for a bit. Finally they landed in the lake and another of them was left behind, looking rather frazzled.
I only had my camera phone and had been so startled by the arrival and fighting of the males at first that I didn't even set it up. Later, they were moving around too much. But it would have made quite the video!
