Blooms!

Some shots from a walk last week.


Unfortunately the tulip blooms in the second photo are a bit harder to see than the tree blooms top and bottom and the pink trunk blooms in the third. But it's been so nice to see things come "back to life" after our very dragged out chilly spring.







Sad to say there's at least one tree in view from our apartment that is still bare. I suspect we'll be losing it :(

Oh my goodness, I've never seen anything like those pink 'trunk blooms'. Lovely pics! And hooray for spring finally warming and blooming.

I could be entirely wrong, but I don't remember seeing these 10+ years ago when spring wasn't such a stop-start affair that trees started dying off from early blooms being frozen. It seems to be a response to any live part of the tree sending out blooms.

The trunk flowers are fascinating! Caused me to investigate and apparently cauliflory is something that happens only in certain species. Yours looks like it might be an eastern redbud or a Judas tree?

Based on your links we clearly have both of these trees here in our neighborhood, though yes, the Judas tree seems most likely for that particular photo.

Some trees in my neighborhood are just now stirring when others are so full of leaves that the sunlight can't shine through. And we are past the fruit blossoms for the most part. . . .

So you shall see.

That first pic is just gorgeous. And the blossoms growing directly from the trunk, interesting! I think I've only seen leaves do that.
