June Sunrise

I ended up not getting to sleep at all Friday night, and while I know that sunrise is around 5 AM at this time of year, it was still about 10 til and I was startled to realize that it was bright as day outside already.



More specifically, the moon was bright and clear in the sky. So I decided to grab the camera and go outside for some photos. Bright sunshine wasn't high enough on the horizon until just after 6 AM but I think the above photos show that it was plenty bright enough.

What peaceful scenes. I imagine cool, fresh air, and the birds beginning to wake and sing.

Not only singing but, I noticed, less likely to fly off when I was near. I wonder if they are accustomed to a certain schedule, such as "world is ours from 4-6 AM"?

We're over towards the west of the UK on the Welsh border and sunrise is about 4.30 at present.

I hear a lot about the frustration of short days during winter, which I get because I also don't want to see it getting dark by 4 PM. But I also prefer not to have my bedroom lit up before 5, which it is at this time of year because it faces east. I generally wake up between 3 and 4 at night for a bathroom trip and when I get back in bed, I put on an eye mask because otherwise I'm awake at 5 with all that light.
