Hallo!
I'm Kate. I'm in the midst of a mid-life career change, so I'm in my 40s and in grad school, for counseling/therapy.
Back a few months ago, with the proceeds of the American Stimulus Check, I decided this was the perfect time to rescussitate old hobbies, and got myself a Canon 40X SX 730. I can't currently afford a DSLR, but this enabled me to get at least a *better* camera than my old cell phone's. I initially learned photography on an old Nikon with a fairly good lens, back in 1998, but that was in the days of film, and photography has Changed, so I've been enjoying fiddling around while taking lockdown walks.
I'm in eastern Massachusetts, in the midst of moving from Easton to Attleboro, which is to say, for those who don't know the area, from a smallish out-of-the-way suburb to the reasonably large county seat, so I get some chances to explore, lately.
Yesterday, I chanced across a hawk on the side of the road, eating something-or-other. (This was the side of a State Route on the outskirts of Attleboro, so fairly well developed but not massively speedy.) Pretty sure it's a red-tail, or maybe a Cooper's. Anyway, I hung out and watched; he/she munched down whatever it was, and, content, flew off to up on top of a telephone pole, where I hung out for awhile longer and enjoyed getting different angles on it.
Up on its perch, the hawk stares into my souuul:

Hawk strides off to eat its mouse (or other rodent) in more peace:

Arty silhouette of hawk on telephone pole, though since it has fuzzy feather britches, it is not a very dignified silhouette:

Hawk says "Sqr?" interrogatively:

After awhile, the hawk got tired and sat down to, apparently, ponder the meaning of life, in a way I have not seen most birds sit:

Also, a butterfly I met a few days ago:

Date: 2020-08-07 06:06 pm (UTC)The sitting on its hocks is very weird. Was that picture taken right after the one before it, where we can see both feet, with nothing in either of them? I'm thinking it might be standing on its right foot and holding a food in its slightly extended left foot. But there would have to be a gap in time between the last two pictures, for it to go get a food.
