Similar ecological niche, yes - they're both bark insect nommmers! Although this one nuthatch I saw earlier managed to raid some other bird/squirrel's stash
They do that, wrens. Tiny bird, but such a bully. You wouldn't think something that little could make so much noise, but they can really shout! We get one in the garden every now and then, but it's on it's own so that one doesn't make too much noise. I did see a small flock in a park once and they had seen a cat on the ground. It was a most amazing racket.
Oh I saw one yelling at a cat yesterday, actually. It was low to the ground, in a briar too dense and thorny for the cat to walk through, and it was just...yelling bloody murder at the cat, who tried its best to ignore it.
