Coots!

I took this last weekend while walking along the section of the London Loop between Enfield Lock and Chigwell that passes through the Lea Valley. The baby coot made so much noise, you'd have thought it hadn't eaten for a week, let alone thirty seconds ago.

Yeah, if you ever wondered why coots are such skilled divers, it was just the only way to get a brief respite from the ceaseless baby coot shrieking. Evolutionary necessity.

Honestly, they never shut up. Even when they're so old you can't tell them from their parents by size and looks, they're still constantly yelling at them.

They are really cute though. Lovely picture.

Oh yes. This one was being incredibly obnoxious even though it was clearly old/big/skilled enough to fend for itself.
