Duck Divide

Saw something amusing yesterday on the lake. The lone white duck we've dubbed Ghost Duck hung out with her sisters when growing up and then in the past months we've seen her partnered with a drake. We'd been expecting to see babies at some point, but we haven't.



Instead we saw one of the mama ducks with her nearly grown daughters and a drake with some nearly grown sons swimming together. The latter ended up sweeping her up in their group.

It was rather amusing seeing her in the middle there, trying to decide which group to follow.

Here, the white would probably be an Ayslesbury.

It's a curious thing -- we have sometimes seen little yellow babies mixed in with a batch of mallard babies. But we've never seen an adult white duck before. So where she came from we don't know.

There are USian white species- the American Pekin springs to mind.
