Hummingbird Couple

We generally see hummingbirds fighting over the feeder at this time of year. We saw two of them swirling around it yesterday and to our surprise we later saw them perched in a nearby tree -- and it was a male and female. Might not be a couple but it seems pretty possible -- especially since we rarely see a male.

They're cute but can also be vicious little things. We have heard beaks clacking when they're fighting one another away from food sources (even though there's plenty to go around).

How lovely! I live in Europe so we don’t have them here, though I have seen them when on vacation. Great that you managed to get such good shots of them.

We don't see hummers here- the smallest native bird is the wren.

We also see goldcrests and firecrests which are even smaller, but not actually native.

Oh wow, I didn't realize there was anything smaller than the hummingbirds! They must be amazing.
