After the drought broke last winter, we've had a lot of plant growth, and also there are more insects about this summer than there usually are here (Silicon Valley); especially since it's been hot this past week. The other night, when I went to the front door to bring in the cat food from the porch, I found myself face to face with this big guy/gal:

This is his or her other side. The door had been open all evening to cool the house, but I'm not sure why they were so fascinated by what lay on the other side of the screen door.

Also this cricket or grasshopper has been hanging about in my room. Here on top of a stack of books.

I think your green friend might be a katydid :D

That's a white-lined sphinx moth! They're my favorite (very LARGE) moth friends.

That's a very large moth. Bigger than what I'm usually accustomed to.

Those are great. I too think the second one is a katydid. I found one on my curtains once, after trying to figure out where the INCREDIBLY LOUD NOISE was coming from. You can hear them fine from quite a distance, but from a few inches away, hidden by a fold of the curtain, it was really alarming, and seemed as if it must come from a much larger creature.
