Lurking Hummingbirds

I nabbed a few photos this summer of the hummingbird camping out in our plants to fend off any intruders from our feeder.



I like the way it looks like she's peeking at me from over the feeder rim.



Though this photo is a bit fuzzy, I liked that it captured the open beak and splayed tail.



In this pic you can see that the wings go back so far that it sometimes looks like the hummingbird only has one.

We only ever see the ruby throated hummingbirds here, and rarely see the males in fact (the females are less bright and do not have the red marking). But there are clearly a number of them about as we've sometimes seen 3 or 4 at a time battling one another for the feeder, and I have seen them in nearby fields as well.
