I nabbed a few photos this summer of the hummingbird camping out in our plants to fend off any intruders from our feeder.

I like the way it looks like she's peeking at me from over the feeder rim.

Though this photo is a bit fuzzy, I liked that it captured the open beak and splayed tail.

In this pic you can see that the wings go back so far that it sometimes looks like the hummingbird only has one.

This year, my hummingbirds decided they wanted something ... different. They ignored the red-trumpet hummingbird plants I offered. Instead they obsessed over a bush with flat white flowers and later I saw one down amidst the zinnias and sedum. Go figure.

I try to offer all my relations a wide variety, and then plant more of the popular things. :D So I'm trying to expand sedum and garlic chives (not native) along with mountain mint and milkweed (native) and I've decided to let the goldenrod stay. The prairie garden is all over skippers in summer, because they like the mix of grasses and wildflowers. Sometimes Gaia throws in new things I didn't buy myself, like the cup plants and the wild grapes.

This spring I saw a hooded warbler using my yard as a rest stop, and a pair of bald eagles decided it made a romantic carpet for their courting flight. I'm so flattered. :D
