Eristalis something-or-other mistook me for a flower today and sat down for a rest. Its veiny wings were especially interesting!



How are people posting the images so that it starts out small but gets bigger when you click? Is there html for that??

When you upload photos direct to Dreamwidth it gives you two embed links you can use, one for the full photo and one for clickable thumbnails.

I have been on this site for about 13+ years at this point and had no idea we could upload images directly! That’s so much easier than what I’ve been doing :o thank you!!!

As far as I remember they added the possibility to add the photos directly more recently, though I don’t remember when.

IIRC it was originally a paid feature, possibly even just for premium/seed accounts; I think it was deliberately rolled out quietly to everyone to avoid sudden overwhelming use. (I also think it's been made more user-friendly than it was. I imagine it's a fiddly thing to program in.)

Great photos! I agree, his or her wings are very attractive when examined at leisure. As opposed to when thinking "OMGs what is it, get it offa me", which I'm afraid would have been my reaction.

Haha, this is not the first time an insect has taken an interest in my clothing. I’m used to it by now :) this little guy was actually hovering near me trying to work out if I was a flower, and I offered him my arm!

So is it yellow clothing in particular, or that specific garment, or are you somehow a bug magnet in general? (If they land on your clothing rather than skin and make no attempt to bite, they’re not after your blood or sweat.)

It’s the bright colours (though they love the yellow in particular). I wear vibrant colours and bugs always mistake me for flowers, this particular shirt gets a lot of attention!

Lol, just today I wore a light yellow hoodie out, and boy was that purchase a tactical error for someone who is slightly afraid of bugs! I had to brush off three random bugs and then check myself before coming back into the house. :P

To a bug, humans are giants. They get excited when they see large swatches of bright colours thinking they have hit the jackpot of flowers ;)
