Saw this little lizard while I was out recently. I'm not 100% sure what kind of skink it is but I think it might be a Fence Skink (Cryptoblepharus virgatus).

Corroborating source: me, resident on the southern Gulf Coast for a year: what my neighborhood has out the kazoo are curlytails and the odd gecko. (Neither are indigenous to Florida, but it’s not as if I have grounds to fault them on that.)

If you hadn't mentioned being in Australia, I would have totally taken him for one of the five-lined skinks (Plestiodon fasciatus) we have here in the eastern US! Funny how species on opposite sides of the world can look so similar.
