I confess, it's not the first time, but it IS the first time we've managed to get pictures! I've been going out there as often as I could for about two weeks, and they've gotten used to me enough that today one of them was hopping up my arm to my shoulder. XD
I just wish I had more endurance. About 20 minutes of standing rock still with lactic acid building up in my arms is my limit.
As for staying there longer, perhaps you could sit down on something and rest your open hand on your knee? That way you could stay still indefinitely - or at least longer than you can when you stand with arms outstretched.
I had a wild bird land on me earlier this year! (I was listening to an audiobook while sitting halfway up a tree - I must have stopped moving for long enough that it wondered what I was.) It was an amazing experience!
A tame Wagtail? How completely and utterly awesome!
I'm really quite jealous; we have a Robin that comes into our living room in search of food and he's even investigated the hallway - but never once has he landed on my husband or myself!
Around here, they're called Black-capped Chickadees, and they're pretty fearless generally. There's a flock of about 10 around here, and maybe two or three will come to my hand, but the others will come to the feeders beside me.
That's cool about the Robin! I wouldn't think they would even come THAT close to people!
Apparently the European Robin is far more people-confident than its American cousin. We also have a Wood Pigeon and a female Blackbird that wander in, along with the occasional buzz-bombing by Sparrow!
