An amaranth self-seeded in a crack in the concrete.
And a red chard I cut back to ground level so it could rot away, with a second flush of leaves.

You’re making me hungry, dammit—I happily downed bales of the Swiss chard (albeit the plain green kind) my mom used to grow, most often simmered.
What’s the surrounding low circular-leaved plant?

Nasturtiums! They also self-seed and grow everywhere. And their leaves and flowers are edible, good in salads, the leaves mildly peppery.

It is amazing how plants can thrive. We have several plants that emerged from just a cutting. One of them, I remember my partner picked up from the floor of a store where it had broken off some other plant that was now gone. It is still with us!
