Crown Point Vista House

Just returned from a road trip through Oregon and part of Northern California. On leaving Portland we followed the route of a tourist trolley and started out at Crown Point Vista House. The views of the Colombia River were indeed impressive and well worth the twisty drive up to its height. The structure itself with its stone and stained glass was also interesting to see. The bathrooms on the basement level were all marbled -- not the usual for tourist stops!

As in most places we could see rocks and trees galore.

You found yourself in a great placetime for serene blue postcard vistas! I particularly like picture #5, with the dark sharp detail of the bluff abruptly silhouetted against the dilute-milky blue haze of distance.

We all really liked those blue outlines on the horizon that we came across so many times. One time we were noting we felt more like we were looking at a painting than an actual landscape!

Wow, that's some spectacular views! Definitely a place worth visiting.

I would recommend it for sure. Even though parking is limited, chances are one could do so without much trouble since people don't tend to linger a long time (even if the building has a small museum included).

Crown Point Vista House was built in 1917 by a renowned architect to high society—which in part explains the posh restrooms. From the Wikipedia entry:

The Vista House was designed by Edgar M. Lazarus, a renowned Oregon architect. With its high-grade marble interior and brass fixtures, some Oregonians at the time derided it as the "$100,000 Outhouse" during its construction.
