The Devil's Punchbowl

Not far from our hotel was a rock feature that had an interesting look to it. What was especially interesting to me were its walls.



The water is always sweeping in and out of the rocks.

There’s a stained and muted red-white-and-blue color scheme in here.

The red was fairly bright in person.

Unsurprising, given the abundance of the likes of iron and manganese and the brilliance of the sun; I am of course reporting from my own monitor.

Always amazes me that water has so much power it can carve out rock. That red colour is intense.

What an amazing formation!

We have famous rock arches along the coast near here, but nothing like that perfect punchbowl.

There was a set of arches far south on the Oregon coast that I wanted to see. However it was a matter of time/distance, and also accessibility for viewing that had me skip it. They're always impressive to see and I was sorry we didn't get the chance.
