Photos: House Yard
Dec. 4th, 2025 11:42 pmToday I took pictures of icicles and snow, mostly in the house yard, some down the driveway.
This is the house yard looking east from the patio.

Snow covers the barrel garden.

The tree guys cut a gap in the east edge of the yard.

Looking east over the field, you can see buildings on the far side.

In the south lot, the garden shed stands out brightly against the snow.

Wing marks in the snow show where a bird took off, probably a sparrow.

Icicles line the eaves.

Close up, the icicles shine in the sun.

This long one hangs off the end.

Bird tracks cross the driveway, probably sparrow. The larger oblong marks come from snow or ice falling from the trees above.

Rumpled snow creates interesting textures in the parking lot.

Rabbit tracks appear beside the driveway.

South of the driveway, snow sparkles around a few blades of grass.

Bird tracks veer around a twig.

Here the bird tracks form an S shape.

Near the Home Base mulberry tree, snow drapes over a log pile left by the tree guys.

Snow covers the Midwinter Grove.

Snow clings to the branches of the yew bushes.

Where the branches touch the ground, the snow covers them to create sheltered pockets underneath.

Several squirrel flets hang high overhead.

Here is a closeup of a squirrel flet. It's a big wad of leaves stuck in the fork of a tree.

The Goddess Garden is almost completely hidden, especially with the statue indoors for winter.

A few sprigs of thyme poke through the snow, still green.

Several birdfeeders hang in the forest garden.

Date: 2025-12-05 08:12 pm (UTC)Conversely in summer you can freeze ice in big blocks, like a jug or an ice cream tub -- a gallon or more works best -- then set it outside in a birdbath so they'll have cool water for longer.
