Cloud Carpets

Last week while taking out the trash, I noticed that the clouds were low in the sky and really thick and ropey, like a plush carpet. Hurried home to grab the camera as sunset was coming soon and I wanted to be sure I caught the look.





You could see the pattern at a distance but it was clearer close up.

That'd be hill country cloud hereabouts- we get quite a lot of it!

Beautiful! I've always called them cotton-ball clouds, but now I'll talso hink of a ropey carpet.

Maybe that's why we don't see it much -- it is flat as a pancake here for hundreds of miles.

Definitely not something we see regularly -- and in such a wide swath. We get more of the random fluffy clouds.

And here as well on fair days. (Florida’s Gulf Coastline can generate amazingly layered and complex cloud convergences.)

Well, be forewarned:

Mackerel skies and mare's tails
Make tall ships carry short sails.

That is, it (and the wispy, curly clouds) are harbingers of storms.

We've definitely gotten a good bit of snow recently.
