Spring Flowers

I buy primroses and pots full of bulbs as soon as they are available, it does so much for my mood to have them where I can see them from the couch. I have daffodils, grape hyacinths, a couple of different hyacinths and these netted irises.

Oh my gosh, thanks for the reminder that it might be as little as a month until ours start popping up out of the ground! It's not that I can't handle a snowy week or two but I am WELL excited about spring.

I have last year's hyacinths in my balcony planters and they were already coming up before Christmas, but I think it will be a while yet before they flower. Snowdrops though and winter aconite should be in bloom very soon

Those irises are so pretty! And the colours of the primroses I can see in the background are pure joy. I must remember to buy myself some spring flowers when I go shopping tomorrow.

I love all primroses but I immediately grabbed the purple one and the red-yellow one. I really cannot overstate how much they cheer me up.

Oh, those irises are stunning! I normally just do vegetables, but this is really convincing me to set aside some planter space for flowers.

The bulbs really don't need much space and will be done once it's vegetable time anyway! I put some in all my herb planters.

I've been waiting since before Christmas for the bulbs, they are doing at least as much as my SAD lamp for my mood

Some folks like a terrarium for lifting winter mood, which is bright green and smells of living earth.

Thank you for that lovely reminder of the temperate seasonal cycle (where I grew up, irises didn’t bloom until around May.)

The big irises will take until around then here as well - netted irises are true spring flowers though, they can flower as early as February even outside.

My mom used to buy hyacinths in winter. The smell would fill the house.

Yesss - I'm away from home for a few days and from how they looked when I left, I think I will be greeted by that scent when I come home.
