Photos: Flowerbeds

Yesterday I shared photos from the House Yard and South Lot plus Savanna and Prairie Garden. Today I did a bit of yardwork that revealed fun new things. :D


I raked the leaves off the rain garden. Underneath, I found many more shoots.




I think this crocus will be solid lavender.




This one looks faintly striped. It's a bit surprising because the earliest crocuses tend to be the tiny, pale snow crocuses. The striped ones are giant crocuses that bloom a little later. So, it's either a precocious giant or the result of my plants having happy hippie sex lives.




That roundish purple leaf in back is heuchera. It likes shad and comes in many colors. This one tends toward burgundy and bronze tones when it's all leafed out.




I also trimmed off the dead stalks from the 'Autumn Joy' sedum under the maple tree. Now you can see the new sprouts better. It's hard to believe that these tiny, curled green things will grow into 2-foot-tall stalks with fleshy leaves and large flower heads.
