My partner was out for a walk given the unusually warm weather we've been having. He texted me excitedly that he thought the swan might be back. (Some of you may remember we got a weeklong visit from one last year).

Then as he came closer he realized the swan seemed unmoving and stiff...

The day after, we looked out our window to discover two plastic beasts in our own lake as well. I believe it's for goose deterrence.

Then we had a windy thunderstorm and the next morning discovered this sight.

In the immortal words of John Cleese: "It’s passed on! This Not Swan is no more! It has ceased to be! It’s expired and gone to meet its maker! This is a late Not Swan! It’s a stiff! Bereft of life! It rests in peace! It’s run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible! THIS IS AN EX-NOT SWAN!"

Soon after spotting the Ex-Not Swan, I noticed the heron prowling around the lake edge, completely unperturbed by artificial swans, whether or not in states of distress.

We haven't seen the heron since a few months back when it was having an ungraceful time on the ice. I'm sure it's glad warmer climes are here.
