Hi all

I was searching through the interests on DW to find a community about my latest obession - geocaching - and found only this community that even lists it as an interest.

I've just gotten started with the hobby, along with my husband and daughter, and the three of us are loving it! We have found 12 caches so far, all local to us, as well as our first trackable.

I'd love to talk to other geocachers, if there are any around.

And if you've never heard of geocaching before, it can be described as treasure hunting using GPS devices :) Geocaching.com is the best place to start!!

Thanks

I don't have a GPS, but if I did, I would be ALL over geocaching.

Actually, now that my partner has a ridiculously fancy phone, it might be a possibility....

My favorite geocaches are the ones I have to climb trees to get to!

I love geocaching! Especially in more populated areas, as they have to find creative methods of hiding the cache, and you have to think outside the box to find them. Like this one, for example:

This microcache was hanging from fishing line, down the open post of a chain-link fence. The picture was taken as I pulled it up and out. I looked around the spot several times before I noticed the light reflecting off the filament.

(Also, urban/neighborhood caches are less likely to be buried in mosquito-infested areas ;)

You could look into the bookcrossing community/interest listed on DW. I know for a fact that many bookcrossers like Geocaching and even combine the two of them. I haven't tried Geocaching so far, lacking any kind of GPS device, though I'm a bookcrosser.

ETA: And, of course, you can start a Geocaching community over here! :o)
