Not especially sweet damson jam was my favourite when I was a kid, and damsons are the only fruit I rly like stewed (&as pie filling &c) apart from rhubarb. /controversial
The scent of damson blossoms is one of the most intoxicating smells I've ever experienced. I love sun-warmed bluebells too but if I could choose one natural perfume to wear it'd be damson flower, maybe with a hint of ginger.
A few days ago all the suburban garden trees suddenly flowered on the same day, so my world is currently filled with tulip magnolia and cherry blossom. They clearly belong to some sort of secret cabal that decides which day spring officially arrives, heh.
I would have welcomed some snow this winter, because in this climate it brings bright light instead of the endless grey-dark rain-clouds we had since December. A freeze might've held back some of the floodwaters too, although a sudden thaw could've been even more disastrous. One can't second guess the weather, even with giant computers apparently. ::wryface::
I love silhouettes, especially in front of dramatic skies. It's possible to see the new spring growth at the tips of the branches in that cap. :-)
I'm also overly interested in the construction of nests! I can't believe you're the first person to mention it! This song thrush nest had apparently been built attached to and partly around a vertical-ish branch, hence the large hole. It was perfectly smoothed inside with a layer of mud/bird-spit/whatever but unusually messy on the outside with excellent camouflage provided by the thick layer of loose ends, a few as long as the diameter of the nest interior. I assume the extreme weather brought it down as there was nothing to attract a predator and it's too well constructed to be a bird's first effort. It might have been several years old and used during more than one breeding season. If you want to try searching for cute images then UK robins tend to win at building their nests in the oddest places.
I once heard baby birds fighting in a tree above my head and looked up just in time for a dislodged nest and baby song thrush to hit me on the head. They both bounced off and the thrush ended up on my shoe! TRUE STORY! I also heard at least two sibling thrushes bouncing down through a nearby hedge, heh. I bet the parents weren't happy when they found their nest had been destroyed by unruly offspring!
