The willows are all blooming, and it just looks like new leaves until you get very close. These drawings are from May 5, at the edge of Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis.
It was the "properly gnarly" that attracted me. And I had thought that the pale chartreuse-green on the willow branches was new leaves, until I got close enough and discovered that no, the trees were blooming.
I'm a professional artist and also a bit of a plant geek, so I post here now and then when I have something that fits the theme of the blog. Thanks for your note. :-)
