So very pretty, and so very difficult to photograph in their natural habitat. I resisted the temptation to "garden" for a better shot. Although my proudest achievement was, of course, not falling into the canal! :-)

Ha, i was looking at photos of the same iris to identify for someone else here in California. Here it's an invasive species: lovely to see it in a native (yes?) setting!

Yes, Yellow Flag is one of only two native irises in Britain and the other one is much less pretty and stinks!

We brought some of our irises over when we moved from Cambridge (almost two years ago now) and they still have yet to bloom. :/ Not sure why they aren't as happy here. The leaves definitely looked better this year than last, at least.

It's probably only a matter of adjustment and time before you find yourself cursing them for trying to take over the world (or, at least, the boggier parts of the world, heh).

It's a battle between them and the snails right now, with me aiding them against the snails. We will see who emerges victorious.
