Gatekeeper butterfly

Finally managed to nab a shot of a gatekeeper sipping from an oregano blossom with its wings open. They tend to perch with their wings folded up. (Click to embiggen.)

Well done! I remember the first time I managed to cap a Holly Blue with his wings open. Beating the odds that way always feels good, heh.

The whites are terrible for sitting still too. Plus not overexposing them is always a challenge, especially in bright sunshine, argh.

You probably already know this but the best time to try capping the more active species is early morning before they warm up, especially on damper/colder mornings. Good luck!
