Finally managed to catch the jay reasonably close to the house! I hold out a slim hope I may see it whilst I'm actually in the garden (and when it's not so overcast), but they're quite shy.
Yes, I suspect it's a frequent visitor, but it's so shy that we don't see it often. I notice we usually spot it when the weather's really bad, so it probably needs to stick around and feed for a while.
Good cap. The only time I usually see them is either flitting between trees or chattering at me for daring to walk under their favourite perch (or whatevz).
I think it's the only species of British jay, so it's just a "jay" here. It's one of the species that surprised me when I moved here because (being American as well) I was expecting something bright blue all over!
