I'm usually very bug-phobic, but dragonflies are a favorite. (I guess because it's as close to a dragon as I'll ever get.)
They still creep me out to some extent, but I push myself to get over it because they are so fascinating. These pics are gorgeous! Look at that detail. I love the bottom one. He looks like he's holding on for dear life.
True story: Years ago, a tiny, baby one landed on my shoelace as I was sitting out somewhere or other. I didn't know what to do because I wasn't sure if he even knew how to fly. It was that tiny. It was the closest I've ever been to one, and I was able to get a really good look. They really are gorgeous, even if you're not into bugs!
Then the wind picked up and I was scared the poor thing would be blown away. I sat there with my hands cupped around my shoelace to cover it. People probably thought I was nuts.
But apparently, these creatures have very strong, grippy claws (?) The wind was very strong and that little guy held on! I realized I didn't need to shield it because it was not going to let go. Eventually, it did fly off.
Anyway, rambling. Thanks again for these. They are beautiful!
Thank you. I do generally love insects, but even so I do have ones that freak me out a bit, and that sometimes I have to take the time to move beyond (in a previous incarnation of work I played around with stick insects. Was all good until we got some much larger ones. Took a bit to get over the bit of a freaked out reaction to them).
Thank you for sharing that story. Always a special moment. :-) I had one (although I'm still not certain thinking back on it whether it was a damsel) that landed on my pants just before I got in my car. It just sat there, after I'd got in and then hopped on my finger. Was so special.
