Speckled wood butterfly (side)
Speckled woods are allegedly quite common in the UK, but they're also rather shy so I've never had the opportunity to be this close to one before. I think this one is female. It was enjoying a repast of raspberries up at the more tangly end of our garden.

The other day a white cabbage moth, which is incredibly common here, startled me by dancing by so close to my face I could feel the air movement from its wings fluttering. So much of what is beautiful is transient. Sometimes the trick to capturing a moment ... is not to capture it, merely experience it to the fullest, with or without a camera. And then, if you are lucky, something lingers. A photo, or a memory, or a learning experience, or a feeling. Or a butterfly in your garden, for awhile.

Beautiful photos! And it's a furry butterfly, adorable! I envy you. I can never get good pics of butterlies, they keep moving every time I try :-)
