Grey Squirrel...?

Hello! I saw your community in the comments of the DW news post and thought, what a great idea!  I really enjoyed looking at your pictures.

As an introduction, here is a critter we had in our neighborhood a few years ago.  I live in Pennsylvania, and we have Eastern Grey Squirrels here, and often I see the black variants around.  This little guy was special because he had a reddish tail.  Sorry for the fuzzy picture -- I had to sneak around the corner of the house with my cell phone to get it, and then had to enlarge it a ton, and it took me months to get that.

I've seen some melanistic squirrels with some interesting color combinations, but I think that one is new on me.

This is the only one I've ever seen who wasn't the same coloring head-to-toe.

Ahhh squirrel! I wish we had squirrels here at all (Western Australia - we don't), but seeing melanistic variants like that are so awesome.

I did not squirrels even came in colors other than the usual grayish until a few years ago when I saw a black one. Totally freaked me out.

I'm a huge fan of red hair, so I'm loving that tail!

Same here - I lived in this area for 45 years before I ever saw a black squirrel, or even heard of such a thing.

I hadn't seen a black squirrel since I moved away from Michigan 15 years ago and then spotted two at a golf course in Virginia. It was pretty cool.

When I started my tumblr account, it was mostly reblogged photos of flowers & squirrels, lol. I've branched out a good bit, now. But I still return to my old faves when I want a happy pick-me-up.
