Spring in Saint Paul, Minnesota

After about six weeks battling bronchitis, I'm mostly better, and I got out for a slow walk yesterday afternoon. Took my shiny new camera along. Not a lot is blooming yet, but the little magnolia trees are, and the fragrance is wonderful. All these photos are click-to-enlarge-able.





And the cottonwoods are just starting to leaf out, just barely.

We're further south in Illinois and there are a lot of flowering trees here locally but unfortunately the stop/start weather we've been getting for the past few winters has really wrecked spring blooms. Too many trees start budding early then get destroyed by frost, and then try again, with sometimes partial success. It's made for very patchy looking trees and a quick turn to leaves instead of weeks of flowers. It's a real shame.

Because I grew up in Florida which had small changes during seasons, I loved the spring and fall seasons up north with the amazing blooms and beautiful foliage. But both seasons have lost their luster of late because of the erratic temperatures.
